Missing Coweta County woman found

NEWNAN, Ga. -- Coweta County authorities have found a missing 78-year-old woman.

Eleanor Alexander was found late Tuesday morning and taken to Atlanta Medical Center for examination.

She was found in a patch of woods about a mile from her home.

Friends describe her as determined and spunky and it seems those attributes helped her survive three and a half days alone in the woods.

For four days, friends, family and total strangers passed out flyers, said prayers, and knocked on doors.

Through it all the family remained positive they would find Eleanor Alexander alive.

It was Tracy Sargent and her dog Cinco that found Alexander, conscious but cold.  Coweta County deputies say her body temperature was only 80 degrees.

Deputies say she was trying to crawl over some barbed wire and got stuck.

Jobless rate jumps in June

Jobless rate jumps in June

ATLANTA -- Metro Atlanta's unemployment rate rose to 8.9 in June.

In Coweta County, the unemployment rate was 8.0 percent.

The Georgia Department of Labor announced the new numbers early Thursday.

The 8.9 percent rate for June was up seven-tenths of a percent point from May's 8.2 percent. It's still under the 9.3 percent rate in June a year ago.

The labor department said the rate increased primarily because of two seasonal factors: large numbers of education workers are unemployed during the summer and new graduates are considered unemployed until they find jobs.

Metro Athens had Georgia's lowest area jobless rate at 7.2 percent, while the Heart of Georgia-Altamaha region had the highest at 12.9 percent.
