Game of the Week Nominees: Semifinals

SNELLVILLE, GA -- The nominations for Game of the Week include a dynamic offense vs. a stout defense, two rematches from earlier in the season, and a battle of two seriously long win streaks. Which game won this week's honors?

With 40 percent of the online vote, Collins Hill at Brookwood is 11Alive and Atlanta.HighSchoolSports.net's Game of the Week. The two 5A teams played earlier in the season, but the stakes and circumstances were much different then.

It was both teams' second game of the season. The Broncos were 1-0 and coming off of a 27-10 win over Walton in the Corky Kell Classic. Collins Hill was 1-0 and coming off of a 13-9 win over Roswell.

Brookwood won 45-38 in double overtime and went on to win 10 of their next 11 games. Collins Hill lost their next two games, but turned a 1-3 record into 10-3.

Wesleyan Looks for Second Title in Three Years

NORCROSS, GA -- Wesleyan is no stranger to success. In 2008, Wesleyan beat ECI to win the Single-A state championship. In 2009, the Wolves lost to the eventual state champions, Wilcox County, in the quarterfinals. Now, head coach Franklin Pridgen's team is 12-1 and faces Savannah Christian (12-1) in the semifinals. And even though Wesleyan has been in this position before, things are different this time around.

"Every year is a little bit different," Pridgen said. "The culture's not different; you don't ever want that to change... [But] its' a little different because each team has a different identity... Each team has a different personality. Each senior class has a different personality."

And this senior class has a big personality, at least numerically speaking. Pridgen said it is the biggest senior class he has had.

What are the Odds of Your Team Winning it All?

ATLANTA -- There are 20 teams that still have a shot at a state championship, but some teams are more likely to come away with a title than others. Ever wonder what the odds of your team winning it all would be? Thanks to the Massey Ratings, you don't have to wonder anymore.

According to the computer's calculations, Carrollton has a better shot at winning a championship than any other team, followed by Clinch County and Buford. Carrollton's opponent, Burke County, is considered the longest shot of any team in any classification.

Statistically, 5A is the most competitive class; all four teams have better than a 1 in 17 chance of winning a title.

Computer Predictions Fare Well in Quarterfinals

ATLANTA -- Massey Matchups correctly predicted 15 winners of 20 quarterfinal playoff games.

Of the five classes, the computer predictor tool undoubtedly did the worst in Single-A. Massey Matchups picked the right winner in only one of the four Single-A games.

Here are how all 20 playoff games turned out. The computer's prediction is on the left; the actual final score appears on the right.

Mill Creek 40, Colquitt County 34; Colquitt County won 27-14

Grayson 26, Valdosta 20; Grayson won 22-0

Collins Hill 21, Lowndes 20; Collins Hill won 31-28

Brookwood 35, Hillgrove 14; Brookwood won 45-35

Football Ticket Cash Stolen in Fort Valley

FORT VALLEY, Ga. (AP) - Police in Fort Valley say about $10,000 in ticket sale revenues for a playoff football game was stolen this week from the field house at Peach County High School.

Police Maj. Lawrence Spurgeon says the cash was stored in a coach's office and came from advance ticket sales for the state playoff quarterfinal game Friday in Atlanta between Peach County and Grady High School.

Spurgeon says the field house was broken into through a side door that was pried open with a tool.

He says the burglary was discovered about 7 a.m. Wednesday by arriving coaches and probably occurred after midnight Tuesday.
