DUI Suspect Had Two Prior Arrests

NEWNAN, GA -- Police records show a woman charged with injuring an 11-year-old while under the influence of drugs had two prior DUI arrests, both coming in a span of 10 days.

Meanwhile, the mother of suspect Hannah Nichole Freeman says her daughter was hooked on prescription drugs.

"She was a bright, articulate, compassionate nurse," said Sheila Freeman. "Prescription drugs have destroyed her life."

The suspect's mother says Hannah Freeman lost her nursing job after a failed drug test two years ago. Sheila Freeman says despite her daughter's problems, she couldn't stop the 27-year-old from driving.

"She would fight you," said Sheila Freeman. "There was no way you could stop her from getting in the car when she was craving the drugs."

Harsh Words for DUI Suspect Accused of Injuring Child

NEWNAN, GA -- The family of an 11-year-old Coweta County boy has strong words for a woman suspected of driving under the influence of drugs.

"As bad as I'd like to take a baseball bat and put her in the same shape that child is in, God's punishment is going to be worse than that," said Shirley Hardegree, grandmother of 11-year-old Tracy Blankenship Gaydoul.

Hannah Nicole Freeman, 27, is facing numerous charges, including DUI and serious injury by motor vehicle, after allegedly striking the child while driving on Welcome Arnco Road on Saturday afternoon.

Investigators say it is Freeman's second DUI arrest in the past 90 days.

"For my son to be alive, it's only God's mercy that he is," said Eddie Blankenship, the child's father.

Fire Victims Get a New Home for the Holiday

NEWNAN, GA -- A Newnan family lost everything they owned the week before Christmas. But, their neighbors, and a generous benefactor, are making sure Christmas happens anyway.

At 88, Rosa Ransby is single-handedly raising and supporting seven great grand children.

Charred remains are all that is left of their home in Newnan's Arnco neighborhood. A fire on Tuesday night destroyed everything except Rosa Ransby's spirit.

"When you meet her, when you see her, she just has a look of a little old grandma that you know all she wants to do is take care of others and something just touched my heart and the other firefighters' hearts, and we just felt like we were going to do everything we could to give back to Ms. Ransby," said Deputy Chief Todd Moore with the Coweta County Fire Department.

ATLANTA -- The dust has settled on Georgia high school football season and only five teams claimed a state championship.

Class AAAAA: Brookwood 52, Colquitt County 38

Jamaal Cole ran for three touchdowns, Andre Sims had an 87-yard kickoff return for a score and Brookwood defeated Colquitt County 52-38 to win the Class AAAAA state championship Saturday night at the Georgia Dome.

Nick Tompkins had 144 yards rushing and scored twice for the Broncos (14-1). The teams combined for 993 yards from scrimmage, with Colquitt County (9-6) amassing 609 yards and 38 first downs.

It was just the second AAAAA title not won by a team from south Georgia since 2003 and gave Brookwood its second state championship. The Gwinnett County school also won a state title in 1996.
