NEWNAN, Ga. -- Newnan police are investigating after a driver was found shot dead near a major shopping center early Friday.

Police said they responded to an access road at 121 Newnan Crossing Bypass near the Target department store around 12:30 a.m. for what was originally reported as a motor vehicle accident, but that changed quickly.

A report from the department states that officers were told three men were seen fleeing the scene after the accident – one to nearby Parkway North Apartments.

Then they were advised that there was a gunshot victim at the scene.

When officers arrived, they found a man, later identified as Travalas Acres of Newnan, unresponsive in the front seat of a silver Kia vehicle.

Coweta County Emergency Medical Services rushed to the scene but declared the victim dead at the scene.

The search then began for suspects in Acres’s death.

With the help of witnesses, police were able to arrest one – Willie Louis Turner II – in connection with the shooting.

However, the search for two other suspects is ongoing. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Newnan Police Department.
