Smokey Road's Dr. Laurie Barron named Principal of the Year | News

NEWNAN, Ga. -- The 2012 MetLife/NASSP National Middle Level Principal of the Year was recently awarded to Dr. Laurie Barron of Smokey Road Middle School.

Barron is the fifth Georgia leader to receive the award since 2008. She will be honored at a black-tie gala later in September in Washington, DC as a kick-off for National Principals Month.

A pep rally was held to honor Barron prior to the official announcement from Superintendent Steve Barker and School Board Chairman Sue Brown, which came in a suprise.

"Laurie, your successful tenure at Smokey Road Middle school is the foundation of your recognition to represent middle level principals across America," Brown said at the rally.

He then presented her with a crystal trophy recognizing her national award.
