NEWNAN, Ga. -- A 25-year-old Newnan man was shot and killed Saturday after accusing another man of mistreating his girlfriend.

Newnan Police said James Christopher Johnson III was shot once in the chest on the patio of the Corner Tavern on Newnan Crossing Bypass.

Johnson had gotten into a fight with 26-year-old Adam Lee Edmondson of Hogansville at the Corner Tavern the night before the shooting. According to City of Newnan spokeswoman Gina Snider, Johnson accused Edmondson of giving his girlfriend an inappropriate look.

Edmondson, Johnson and the girlfriend had a second run-in at the Corner Tavern at around 11 p.m. Saturday, which is when Edmondson pulled out a handgun and shot Johnson.

Johnson was pronounced dead at Piedmont Newnan Hospital.

Edmondson was arrested and charged with murder.
