Child 'awake, sitting up' after sister's sacrifice on Chattahoochee River
CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. — A local family is mourning the loss of a 14-year-old girl who they say died while heroically saving her little sister from drowning.
Alyssa Calhoun of Newnan passed away Friday.
She and her sister Kendall were swimming in the Chattahoochee River when they lost their swim noodle.
On Saturday, 11Alive learned that 6-year-old Kendall is "now awake and sitting up" at Children’s Healthcare at Egleston. The 6-year-old was airlifted there Friday and spent much of the weekend in the Intensive care unit.
