First triplets born at new Piedmont Newnan Hospital

NEWNAN, Ga. – A couple who married just 10 months ago welcomed a set of triplets at Piedmont Newnan Hospital on April 13. The babies were conceived without the use of fertility drugs. Both parents have twins in their families but neither has triplets.

“She is such a blessing to me and now she’s given me three more blessings,” Mark Mathias said of his wife Grace and newborn sons.

The baby boys are the first set of triplets born at the new Piedmont Newnan Hospital, which opened in 2012. They were delivered at 35 weeks gestation.

“It went well. It could not have gone better,” said Dr. Adegboyega Aderibigbe, M.D. Dr. “Ade” is one of two neonatologists on staff around-the-clock at Piedmont Newnan, which recently received approval from the state to operate as a Level 3 NICU.

Architect couple's latest creation arrives early

Architect couple's latest creation arrives early

NEWNAN, Ga. -- This is a story about a local architect whose latest design was finished earlier than he expected.

Eric Matthews got home early to his Newnan home Tuesday, at around 5 p.m. He says that's when he heard his wife screaming upstairs.

Turns out Taneca Matthews, also an architect, had gone into labor with their second baby and there was no time to get to the hospital.

At the advice of the 911 operator, Eric got his wife on the bed; then he says he had to throw the phone to the floor because his child was coming.

Peyton, their baby girl, was born perfectly healthy -- and they got to Piedmont Newnan Hospital after the fact. It was less than 30 minutes from Taneca's first labor pain to the birth of their daughter.

Eric told us afterwards that he thought, "What is going on? I don't deliver babies in my bed!"
