NEWNAN, Ga. -- Coweta County's Business Women's Network will hold a social event later this week.

Local businesswomen are invited to network, eat, drink and have fun on Friday, July 12 at the Coweta Club at Arbor Springs Plantation.

Newnan Centre to host ribbon cutting

NEWNAN, Ga. -- Coweta County's brand new Newnan Centre will hold an opening ceremony and ribbon cutting on Thursday, June 20 at 10 a.m.

Newnan's mayor and members of the city council will be in attendance to officially open the state-of-the-art conference center.

After the ribbon cutting, the Georgia Heat Basketball Association will perform in the center.

City to hold vendor fair

NEWNAN, Ga. -- The city of Newnan and the Potts Company have teamed up to host a vendor fair in anticipation of two major projects.

The fair will be held Wednesday, June 26 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Newnan Utilities Wahoo Creek Administration Building.

The city is looking for trades and equipment for improvements to the Newnan Public Safety Complex and redevelopment of the University of West Georgia Hospital.

City of Newnan spokeswoman Gina Snider said the vendor fair will include information about the bidding process, including how to acquire bid documents for the city's projects.

ATLANTA -- Several Monkey Joe's locations in Georgia will host an event to raise money for Tripp Halstead's family.

Jump for Tripp will be held all day on Sunday, May 19. Ten percent of sales will benefit the family of the 2 year old, who was hit by a falling tree branch at his daycare center last October.


The Monkey Joe's venues in Cumming, Duluth, Lawrenceville, Marietta, Morrow, Newnan, Roswell, Tucker and Warner Robins will participate in Jump for Tripp.

Country music superstar Alan Jackson will perform at Chastain Park Amphitheater on Friday, Apr. 26 at 7:30 p.m.

NEWNAN, Ga. -- The Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce will host an interactive discussion about upcoming changes to the country's health care system.

"Health Care Reform: Be Prepared -- What Employers Need to Know for 2014" will be held Friday, Apr. 12 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Discussion topics include health care tax credits, employer compliance, essential plan designs and shared responsibility provisions. Refreshments will be provided.

UWG gala to honor notable alumni

CARROLLTON, Ga. -- The University of West Georgia will hold its 2013 Alumni Association Awards Gala on Saturday, Apr. 20.

The gala, "An Evening with the Stars," will be at the school's Townsend Center for Performing Arts. The evening begins with a 6 p.m. reception, followed by a 7 p.m. ceremony.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at westga.edu.

This year's honorees include Dr. Laurie N. Barron ('99), principal of Smokey Road Middle School in Newnan; UWG Director of the Center for Public History Dr. Keith Hébert ('98); GlendonTodd Capital investor and operating partner John Harris ('71, '73); and former NASA mathematician Jimmy Akin ('64).
