SHARPSBURG, Ga -- The location for the fundraising event in remembrance for Madeline McTier has changed. The Miracle for Madeline event will be held Sunday, Sept. 22.Bike registration will start at 11 a.m. at Hunter Compex. Kickstands up at 12:30; the bikes will come back to Crossroads Baptist Church. The festivities will begin at 2 p.m. at Crossroads Baptist Church on Highway 16 in Sharpsburg. There will be plenty of food, tons of vendors, several bands including Hudson Road Band, Sweet Grass Sally, CMT star Zach Lunsford and many more. A replica if the Batmobile will be there along with the Scooby Doo van, lots for the kids, prizes, auction and lots more. You don't want to miss this celebration of life for Madeline!

PetSmart to host National Adoption Weekend

(WXIA) -- PetSmart Charities is planning a major adoption event at stores nationwide.

National Adoption Weekend will be Sept. 13-15. Thousands of dogs and cats will be available for PetSmart customers to take home.

Adoption representatives will also be on hand to answer questions about caring for a new pet.

PetSmart Charities will give $35 to grants to participating local adoption partners for every pet that finds a new home during National Adoption Weekend.

"We are proud to partner with PetSmart Charities to find lifelong loving homes for thousands of pets this National Adoption Weekend," PetSmart CEO David Lenhardt said.

NEWNAN, Ga. -- A groundbreaking ceremony for the University of West Georgia's new Coweta County campus will be held early next month.

Everyone is invited to the event, which will be Monday, Sept. 9 at 11:30 a.m. at 80 Jackson Street in Newnan.

City of Newnan spokeswoman Gina Snider said the university's construction project should have an immediate $21 million economic impact on the city. It will also create roughly 176 jobs.

The campus is expected to generate between $1.4 million and $3.4 million for Newnan's economy every year.

UWG celebrates Coweta freshmen

NEWNAN, Ga. -- The University of West Georgia will hold a big celebration this week for all incoming freshmen from Coweta County.

President Dr. Kyle Marrero and mascot Wolfie, as well as numerous alumni, will represent the school during the send-off. It will be held Thursday, Aug. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Newnan Centre, and is free to attend.

The event "is a great way for new students to be celebrated and recognized for their decision to 'Go West' and for our wonderful alumni to play an important role in welcoming these students to the pack," according to UWG director of alumni relations Frank Pritchett.

Attendees will be treated to refreshments and live music from Musicology Newnan.

Newnan dentist to hold low-cost dental event

NEWNAN, Ga. -- A Coweta County dental office will hold a low-cost dental event for the community this weekend.

For a minimum donation of $10, patients can have their choice of one cleaning or one extraction at Wheat Family Dental in Newnan on Pay It Forward Dental Day.

Proceeds from the event will provide dental supplies for Hope for Haiti.

"This event is a great opportunity for us to give back to the community we serve, as well as help those in need in Haiti," dentist Dr. Leo Wheat said in a statement. "All funds we raise with this event will add to the cause of improving the quality of life of hundreds of thousands of Haitian children and their families."

Pay It Forward Dental Day will be held Saturday, Aug. 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Patients will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis.

Wheat Family Dental is located at 42 Market Square Road.

Crossroads Guitar Festival film coming to Atlanta

Crossroads Guitar Festival film coming to Atlanta

(WXIA) -- Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival 2013 was held at Madison Square Garden in April.

Those who missed this gathering of legendary guitarists can still experience it -- without leaving metro Atlanta.

A special film presentation of the festival will screen at several theaters on Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 7:30 p.m. It features behind-the-scenes footage and some of the best concerts from the two-day jam session.

Musicians featured in the film include Gregg Allman, Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy, John Mayer, Keith Urban and, of course, Eric Clapton.

"The Clapton Crossroads Guitar Festival has long been one of the premiere events in music, and communities of fans nationwide will enjoy the ultimate concert experience on the big screen with amazing sound and front row seats," Dan Diamond, senior vice president of business development for NCM Fathom, said in a statement. Fathom will host the Aug. 13 film screenings.

NEWNAN, Ga. -- The Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce will hold a networking event for local young business professionals later this month.

The Young Professionals mixer will be Thursday, July 25 at 8 a.m. at the Newnan Chick-fil-A Dwarf House.

Among the discussion topics is the cha         mber's three pillars of professional development: business development, civic and charity work, and personal development.

The breakfast networking event costs $10. Those who pay $40 will receive a year of Young Professionals membership.
