BEST SPOTS: Halloween Pop-Up Shops

ATLANTA – Halloween pop-up shops, the first sign of excessive candy consumption, tons of food and some of our favorite clichés. And as it stands, ‘tis the season that niche' business owners hawk goblins, gouls and costumes that look similar to some of our favorite celebrities at stores in and around Atlanta.

Pop-up shops, with their intense decorations and marquees, aren’t a nuisance as much as they’re a wonder; they provide us with an outlet, yearly and almost on cue, to outfit ourselves fabulously for parties and the likes. They inhabit the vacant storefronts of closed up shops and provide us with a “cornucopia” of Halloween opportunity; from the costumes to the temporary work.

According to Spirit Halloween, it is projected that the most popular Halloween costumes in 2011 to be former “Two in a Half Men” star Charlie Sheen, singer Katy Perry and Snookie.

Around the Metro-Atlanta area there are plenty of costume stores and pop-up shops, the Where U Live team has listed a couple for you to go check out:

The Atlanta Costume Norcostco – Ansley Mall Northeast Atlanta is located at 2089 Monroe Drive in Ansley Park. The store is revered as the best costume shop in Atlanta. Unlike popup shops, this store is open year-round and carries an internationally recognized brand of theatrical makeup. This store is utilized by many short filmmakers as a go-to for cheap costumes and stage props.

Barefoot Bubba’s Costume Shop moved from Conyers to the Atlanta area and they have been designing costumes for over 25 years for theater shows, parties and events. The shop is a locally owned and has over 25 years of professional costume design experience in the Atlanta area. Barefoot Bubba’s specializes in the rental and sale of theatrical quality costumes. The shop is located at 1700 Commerce Drive in Atlanta.

Check out Vintage by Judith on the Marietta Square for the “largest selection in the Southeast”. The shop has a pretty considerable stock of costumes from the antebellum era. They also have costumes ranging from the mid 1800’s to the present. The shop also specializes in vintage bridal and the apparel of the old south. Judith’s is located at 162 Roswell Road in Marietta.

Marietta store, A Costume Ball, is a one stop shop for scary costumes and a number of accessories. A Costume Ball claims to be “an escape from the ordinary and a step into a world of your imagination in a creative costume”. The store is located at 3101 Roswell Road in Marietta.

Lookout for the Halloween Thrills popup shops opening around town. The store has hired temporary employees at its three locations at: Atlantic Station, Roswell and Kennesaw. The shops work to boost the economy, every year. The restaurant offers costumes for adults, children and costumes to dress your pet. Halloween Thrills is located at 730 Holcomb Bridge Road, 1381 Market Street and 1180 Barrett Parkway.

The Halloween Superstores are also a seasonal pop-up shop in Atlanta. The stores are not just “aisles in a party store but their pure Halloween excitement”. The shop has locations in Kennesaw, Buford, Newnan and Marietta. They offer costumes, masks, wigs, and makeup and party goods.

Costumes, Etc. is another popular Atlanta's one stop shop for all your costume needs, according to their website.  At Costumes, Etc. shoppers will find one of the largest selections of better quality adult and children's costumes — in stock year-round — for rent and for sale in Atlanta. This specialty shop has some of the best prices and highest quality rental costumes in Atlanta. The shop is located at 2138 Faulkner Road in Atlanta.

Eddie’s Trick and Novelty Shop in Marietta is a favorite and it’s pretty affordable too. The store sells plenty of traditional generic costumes but they also rent out interesting and hand-made costumes. They sell Halloween decorations, DVDs, makeup and wigs. Eddie’s is a one stop shop. Check them out at  70 South Park Square in Marietta.
