City of Newnan spokeswoman Gina Snider said the university's construction project should have an immediate $21 million economic impact on the city. It will also create roughly 176 jobs.
The campus is expected to generate between $1.4 million and $3.4 million for Newnan's economy every year.
"Newnan must remain a globally competitive community, connected to the modern economy, with access to economically sustainable opportunities, and the advancement and availability of a university education supports that goal," Snider said in a statement.
UWG's Coweta campus will have 51,000 feet of instructional space, including a 120-person lecture hall.
