Walk With a Doc program extended in Newnan

NEWNAN, Ga. -- Due to its growing popularity, Piedmont Newnan’s Walk With a Doc program will be extended through November. The hospital had planned to hold their last walk of the year on Aug. 23 but, after back-to-back record turnouts, Piedmont made the decision to continue the program.

"This is a huge benefit for our community here in Newnan," said Piedmont Newnan CEO Mike Robertson. "The fact that we had another record turnout during our July walk is just phenomenal and shows that our Coweta County community is serious about healthy living."

Piedmont launched Walk With a Doc after their health needs assessment showed that one in four adults in Coweta County is physically inactive and nearly one in three is considered obese. The walks not only encourage physical fitness, but they give participants one-on-one time with a Piedmont Newnan physician. The walks are held the fourth Saturday of each month at 8:30 a.m. at Carl Miller Park, located at 70 Sewell Road in Newnan.

The next walk on Aug. 23 will be led by anesthesiologists Jarrod Huey, M.D. and Emily Natarella, M.D.  Dr. Huey graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in 1998, followed by a residency in internal medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 1999 and a residency at Emory University in anesthesiology in 2002.  He is board certified in anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology.  Dr. Natarella is a 2006 graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine and completed a residency in general surgery at Caraway Methodist Medical Center in 2007 and at the Alabama Medical Center in anesthesiology in 2010.

All participants will receive a pedometer to help them keep track of the number of steps taken. Doctors will take five minutes to talk on a health topic of their choice at the main pavilion at the park, and participants can ask questions freely for the remainder of the session.

The event is free, but registration is required by calling 877-527-3712.
