New Installment of "History with Elizabeth" Series, Febraury 9th

The Newnan Carnegie Library wants Newnan residents to join them on Wednesday, February 9th at 10 a.m. for the informative History with Elizabeth series.  This month’s topic is Nuggets from Anderson’s History of Coweta County and the Coweta Chronicles.

A fourth generation Coweta Countian, Elizabeth is a descendant of early settlers.  Proud of her heritage and always imbued with a strong sense of history, Ms. Beers has been actively involved in various professional, civic, community, church, and historical organizations. With her knowledge of the county and its people, she is a resource person, and has become known as the "unofficial local historian." 

Admission to this event is free. The Newnan Carnegie is located at 1 LaGrange Street in Newnan.

Eight Citizen of Year Nominees Named

NEWNAN -- (The Times Herald) One of eight nominees will be named Coweta's 2011 Citizen of the Year Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Coweta County Fairgrounds on Pine Road.

Previously sponsored by Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce, this year's event is being sponsored by the five Kiwanis Clubs in Coweta County.

The Citizen of the Year award recognizes an individual with outstanding leadership and citizenship within the community and who demonstrates exemplary vision, civic pride, and a strong commitment to a better Coweta.

The previous Citizens of the Year serve as the selection committee for the annual task of choosing the next award winner.

Tickets are $25 for the buffet reception and may be purchased at Scott's Book Store on the Court Square or by calling 770-253-7147.

Piedmont Newnan receives $5.1 million

NEWNAN, GA -- (The Times-Herald) The Piedmont Newnan Hospital replacement facility on Poplar Road will offer enhanced services in the areas of interventional radiology, surgery, emergency care and women’s and neonatal services thanks to a major boost from Newnan Hospital Inc.

Newnan Hospital Inc. made a historic gift valued at more than $5.1 million to Piedmont Newnan Hospital, the largest, private, one-time gift in Piedmont Healthcare’s 105-year history.    

Newnan Hospital Inc. is the legal entity that was the previous owner of Piedmont Newnan Hospital and continues today with a mission to support healthcare-related needs and initiatives to improve the healthcare of the local community.

“We are building a new hospital today because of the vision and perseverance of the Newnan Hospital Inc. Board of Directors,” said Michael Bass, president and CEO of Piedmont Newnan Hospital.

Information Sessions at The Carnegie

Come to The Carnegie for an informative seminar with local financial advisor Sam Madaris Jr.  In “Retirement Has Changed, What’s Your Next Move?” you will learn how to organize and record your financial assets, set realistic goals for retirement spending, determine if you’re on track to reach your goals and what to do if you aren’t. 

This program will be Monday, November 15 at 10 A.M.  Refreshments will be served.

This month’s Sack Lunch Cinema is Wednesday, November 17 at noon and will feature the recent release “Invictus”.  Bring your sack lunch and we’ll provide the drinks and dessert.

Travel to Venice, Greece and Croatia through the Carnegie’s series ‘Armchair Travelers.’ The series speaker for the month of November is local traveler Faye Holzaepfel. The speaking engagement will be on November 19 at 2pm at the Carnegie.

Meet Jenny Jones, Newnan's Artist of the Month

Jenny is a native of Newnan and Coweta County and a Newnan High School graduate. She is an active member of the First Baptist Church of Newnan, the Newnan Coweta Art Association, and has been employed with Newnan Utilities for 26 years and has recently retired.  She has two daughters, Aimee and Sarah.

Needing a hobby in 1999, Jenny began with stenciling and wall murals in her own home.  Her mother, being a craft painter, invited her to visit a craft painting class with her.  Soon after, her desire to paint grew and she began to buy woodwork, windows, glass objects, and any other materials using glass paint and acrylics.

Free Yoga at the Carnegie

Relax and free your mind at The Carnegie with a family yoga class led by Elizabeth Dorsey and Yvette Monet.  All ages are welcomed but a family is not required to participate. 

Instructor Elizabeth Dorsey, RYT-200, is a registered yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance. And Instructor Yvette Monet has been practicing and teaching yoga for 35 years. 

Please wear comfortable clothing, mats will be provided.  The program will be held on Saturday, October 2nd at 11:00 a.m.  Please call 770-683-1347 to reserve your spot.
