Piedmont Healthcare to cut 464 jobs

ATLANTA -- Piedmont Healthcare is cutting 5 percent of its workforce after a systemwide review of company costs.

That's equivalent to 464 positions, about a third of which were already vacant, according to Piedmont spokesman Jim Taylor.

"Changes like these are extremely difficult and not without emotion since they impact friends and co-workers,"Piedmont Healthcare President and CEO R. Timothy Stack said in a statement. "In all circumstances, our decisions are based on our responsibility to provide safe, quality care at a competitive price and to be good stewards of our resources as a community-based, not-for-profit healthcare provider."

The job cuts are just a fraction of $68 million in cost-saving measures eyed by the healthcare system.

Piedmont Healthcare operates Piedmont Hospital in Buckhead, Piedmont Fayette Hospital in Fayetteville, Piedmont Newnan Hospital, Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper, Piedmont Heart Institute, Piedmont Physicians Group, and Piedmont Healthcare corporate division.
