Pat Sewell, Newnan's Artist of the Month
Arts & Culture

It’s that time of the month. What time, you ask? It’s the time that Newnan names their “Artist of the Month”. This month it’s Pat Sewell.  And you can catch her fun and whimsical take on Santa at Newnan City Hall located at 25 LaGrange Street in the City Manager’s office.

Sewell has enjoyed a lifelong interest in the art world, attending shows, exhibits, and museums at every opportunity.  She collects a variety of artwork including her “rescue” collection of unknown, amateur work she finds in flea markets, antique shops and yard sales.  As a young child Sewell’s favorite Christmas presents were a Christmas coloring book and a box of crayons with lots of colors.  A tray of watercolors, drawing paper, and brushes were other favorite.

Sewell says she is self-taught. She studies art books and attends workshops and lectures as often as possible.  She primarily works in acrylics and has recently learned to work in pastels.

Sewell is an active member of the Newnan-Coweta Art Association (NCAA.)  NCAA meets the third Thursday each month (from September through May) at the Harriet Alexander Art Center on Hospital Road at 7:00 p.m.  Visitors and new members are welcome.  An art demonstration is presented each month, the NCAA encourages all that are interested to join them.
