GSU: Student drug dealer, potential teen buyer shot on campus

ATLANTA  — Two teenagers were shot during what police said was a drug deal in a Georgia State University dormitory parking lot in downtown Atlanta Monday evening. One other person was taken into custody by authorities in the incident. 

It happened in the parking lot of the Piedmont North dormitory at the corner of Piedmont Avenue and Ellis Street. 

Georgia State University Police Deputy Chief Carlton Mullis said Shelton Torance Flournoy II, 19 and Jalyn Isaiah Knight, 18 drove parked their blue Honda Accord in the parking lot of the dormitory.

Then, Mullis said, armed GSU student Bryan Rhoden came out of the dorm and walked up to the car to sell the two people inside the car one pound of marijuana.  The driver of the car, Flournoy, was also armed.  Rhoden, Mullis said, got into the back seat of the car.

1 building on Ga. Gwinnett College remains closed after explosion

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — One building on the campus of Georgia Gwinnett College remains closed after an explosion happened in a bathroom on the campus Monday morning, injuring a woman. According to the school's president, foul play is not suspected.

911 caller: There's a baby outside Henry County dentist office

STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. — Authorities have released a 911 call in which a man tells dispatcher about an abandoned baby outside of a Henry County dentist's office.

Authorities said they received a call early Sunday that a baby had been dropped off at a dental office next to Piedmont Henry Hospital.

In the call, the man tells dispatchers, "I would like to report a baby at the Davis Family Dentistry across from the emergency ambulance entrance at Piedmont Medical. This is not a joke. Please go. Hurry." He then hangs up. (Click here to hear the call)

Peachtree Charter Middle School being evacuated due to smoke

DUNWOODY, Ga. — DeKalb County Fire Rescue evacuated Peachtree Charter Middle School after smoke was seen coming from a classroom.

Fire officials indicated it happened around 3:30 p.m. Monday.

According to the a social media account for DCFR, officials responded to the scene to determine the source of the smoke and remove it from the location. Nearly 1,200 students were evacuated after a belt on an air conditioning unit burned out, causing the smoke. 

No one was injured in the incident. School officials gave the all clear and students returned to classes. School will have a normal schedule tomorrow.

Man with cross face tattoo robs coin laundry


NORCROSS, Ga. -- A distinctive tattoo and a conversation caught on video could help police find the man wanted in a coin laundry robbery. 

Gwinnett County Police say the Happy Coin Laundry on Britt Road in Norcross was robbed on March 14th between 3:20 and 3:35 p.m. Surveillance video shows the suspect talking with two women in the back of the store. The women quickly gather their belongings and leave the store and get into a late 1990's brown Buick. 

Abandoned Henry Co. baby a 'Safe Haven' law quandry

STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. -- Authorities in Henry County are trying to figure out if they’re going to press charges against a young mother and a man who they say abandoned a newborn baby at a dental office.

That baby boy was just a few hours old when first responders found him, they say he’s going fine.

Child 'awake, sitting up' after sister's sacrifice on Chattahoochee River

CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. — A local family is mourning the loss of a 14-year-old girl who they say died while heroically saving her little sister from drowning.

Alyssa Calhoun of Newnan passed away Friday.

She and her sister Kendall were swimming in the Chattahoochee River when they lost their swim noodle.

On Saturday, 11Alive learned that 6-year-old Kendall is "now awake and sitting up" at Children’s Healthcare at Egleston. The 6-year-old was airlifted there Friday and spent much of the weekend in the Intensive care unit.
