Carolyn Barron Students Participate in the International Day of Peace
Schools

The students of Carolyn Barron Montessori School (CBMS) will participate in the International Day of Peace with their own festivities on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 from 9:00 – 9:30 a.m. The day is designed to encourage a sense of peace for all worldwide.

Students will gather around the school’s Peace Poll to share a variety of initiatives that focus on the concept of peace, including singing the song, “Peace Around the World” which was created by Shelly Murley, a former Montessori teacher; this demonstation will culminate with the students releasing doves.  And they will read readings of peace, as well as create handmade crafts depicting peace throughout the day.  The CBMS Girls Scout troop also created “Pinwheels for Peace” that will decorate the front of the school during the day.

“Dr. Maria Montessori felt that the only way to have world peace was through our children,” states Kathleen Winters, Academic Director, CBMS.  “In fact, Dr. Montessori specifically said ‘Establishing lasting peace is the work of education; all politics can do is keep us out of war.’”

The Carolyn Barron Montessori School is located at 195 Jackson Street in Newnan. For more information on the Barron School or the International Day of Peace, visit www.cbms.net or www.internationaldayofpeace.com.
